The Benefits of Using Video Interviews for Recruitment One of the most modern elements of the hiring and recruitment process is video interviewing. It is easier to organise, cuts costs and allows for re-evaluation later on. This infographic from Spark Hire  shows some of the benefits of video interviewing and its recent rise. Takeaways: Traditional hiring methods take 45 days on average to hire a new position and cost $1,500 $5,000 per hire on average. The cost to replace employees can be up to 4 times their annual salary, with bad recruiting costing companies over $50,000 on average. 80% of employee turnover can be linked to faults in the hiring process, according to a Harvard study. There are two types of video interviews one-way and two-way interviews One-way video interviews are productive (more interview screens can be done), convenient (answers can be recorded and reviewed at anytime) and economical. Two-way video interviews are convenient (no need for scheduling or travel), revealing (employers can see non-verbal cues from candidates), recordable and shareable. Two-way video interviews can save as much as 67% on necessary travel costs compared to more conventional recruitment techniques. Staying In Touch - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Last week I wrote about the importance of physical touch. To follow that you should figuratively stay in touch as well. Whatever your connections are with people, it’s important to periodically touch base with them. It takes less than five minutes to reach out in the following ways: • Phone and comment on research, an article, a book, or whatever you found that would be of interest. • Send a copy of research, an article, or a book. • Phone to give a compliment on a business success. • Send an article that you wrote. • E-mail an inquiry as to whether the person was affected by the flood or snowstorm that hit his or her area. • Contact the person’s secretary or administrative assistant with something of benefit. • Phone or e-mail to ask for an opinion on something youre working on. You get the idea. The list is endless. About once a month, I receive an article of interest from Paul Schlossberg. He’s the CEO of D/FW Consulting, and he travels a lot. On his flights, he seemingly reads every magazine published, and he constantly clips articles to send to people in his community of contacts. One of his secrets is that he has envelopes pre-addressed and stamped in his briefcase, so when he sees an article, it takes about three seconds to send it out. Another person who knows how to make himself a valuable source is Eric Weissmann. When I finished interviewing him for a book I was writing he asked this simple but great question: “Is there anyone you still need to interview for the book? Is there someone I could introduce you to?” Comments about such assistance is a sure way to win someone over. Mary Mandell says that every time someone asks for her help or advice, she goes out of her way to give it to them. Every time a headhunter calls, she “always, always” returns the call and gives a referral. “I’ll even refer people I don’t know if I think it will help them.” She adds, “I always ask how the recruiter found me, too.” That way she can follow up with the person who passed along her name. People like Schlossberg, Weissmann, and Mandell really get it. As you can see, there are plenty of ways to create connections on your own daily and weekly â€" to reach out and touch someone.

Getting Your Finances In Order For Any Occasion Everyday life can be a constant drain on resources. From expensive “firsts, ranging from buying a new car and home and starting a family, to purchasing all of the insurance policies you need and covering emergencies, the issue of money and needing more is a common theme. However, financial security doesn’t have to be an unattainable fantasy. On the contrary, just a few simple steps can help you to reduce your expenses significantly, boost your disposable income and allow you to plan for any occasion in the future. Reduce expenses Adopting more of a minimalist approach to lifestyle and spending is a positive change you can make immediately. Today’s society is geared towards mass consumption of media, tech, products and services, but you could save a significant amount of money each month by cutting back on these non-essentials. Do you really need many of the luxuries you buy every month? To reduce your expenses, first write down all of your important outgoings, such as rent, bills, food and gas, and then non-essentials, such as meals out, vacations and hobbies. Many people are now using contactless and mobile payments, so it can be difficult to keep track of expenses. A list will give you a visual aid to work from so you can reduce your outlay. Financial plan Now you know what you are spending each month, you can outline a clear financial plan with specific goals. These goals could be to save a specific amount to purchase a new car or to build a safety net for emergencies. It is best to start with short-term targets, as these will be more readily achievable and will give you a sense of achievement each time. Regular short-term gains are also more likely to lead to long-term success. For example, you could set aside $200 each month and then work towards increasing that figure. Paying off any debt is arguably the most important step towards achieving financial security, so try to settle student loans and any credit card and medical payments as soon as possible. Credit rating Your credit rating is a system used by lenders to determine the risk involved when lending you money. If you are getting your finances in order to purchase a mortgage, then this is very important. A credit score is calculated based on factors such as your previous credit performance, the length of history, types of credit used and amount owed. You can check your current rating by ordering a report online. Those with credit scores of 760 and above generally have better access to interest rates on a mortgage. The easiest way to improve your score is to make all of your payments on time and to keep your credit utilization, which is the amount of available credit you are currently using, below 30 percent. Try not to apply for new sources of credit either. Home service contract Getting your finances in order will finally allow you to redirect your money into useful types of insurance and planning for unforeseen disasters and emergencies.
